Origin and history

The Collonges-la-Rouge Hall, listed as a Historic Monument, is located opposite the village church. Built in pink sandstone and covered with slate, it dates from the late 16th or 17th century. Its architecture rests on walls, rectangular piles and columns, with a croup roof supported by sandstones. The northern part is home to a pot, whose circular oven, integrated in a square massif, opens with a double arc. Two square niches frame the mouth of the oven, the left with the engraved date of 1880.

An alley crosses the building, connecting the Gate Plate with the church. This passage highlights its central role in the movement of the village. The hall, a communal property, illustrates local vernacular architecture, mixing practical functions (market, oven) and symbolic (proximity with the church).

Registration for the Historical Monuments by order of 20 October 1987 protects the entire hall (cadastre AI 186). Its state of conservation and its integration into the village of Collonges-la-Rouge, famous for its red sandstone constructions, make it a remarkable testimony of the rural history of Limousin.
