Origin and history
The house located at 27 rue Pasteur in Segré-en-Anjou Bleu is a historic monument registered since 1931. It illustrates medieval civil architecture with its gable-faced pan-de-bois facade, decorated with diamond-shaped motifs on the first floor and cross of St.Andre on the upper floor. Built perpendicular to the main street, it leans against a rocky escarpment, reflecting the adaptation of the houses to the 15th century urban topography.
This former merchant house is part of the narrow frame of the medieval square of Segré, testifying to the commercial activity of the city at that time. Although dated from the 15th century in the sources, some architectural elements suggest construction or modification in the 16th century. The protection specifically concerns its facade and roof, highlighting their heritage value.
The building embodies the role of log houses in the towns of the Pays de la Loire region, where they served as both a place of residence and a professional space for merchants. Its state of conservation and designation as Historic Monuments make it a remarkable example of this architectural heritage.
