Origin and history

The house at 6 Rue Notre-Dame in Guingamp is a historic monument inscribed by ministerial decree. This 16th century building represents an example of Renaissance civil architecture in Brittany. Its ranking in 1926 shows its heritage importance, although details of its history and occupants remain little documented in available sources.

Guingamp, a Breton town in the Côtes-d'Armor, was at that time a commercial and religious crossroads. Bourgeois houses like this often reflected the prosperity of local merchants or notables. Their preservation makes it possible today to study lifestyles, construction techniques and urban organization of the 16th and 17th centuries in Brittany.

These buildings also played a social role, sometimes hosting artisanal activities or community meetings.
