Origin and history
The log house called La Forge, located in Veilleins en Sologne, is an emblematic 16th century building, partially renovated in the 18th century. Its central body, characteristic of the traditional Solognot building, has a facade organized according to the principle of the cross of St Andrew, a common motif for the two-storey houses of this time. This structural system, both aesthetic and functional, contrasts with the lateral extensions added in the 18th century, mounted in a more regular grid system, reflecting the evolution of constructive techniques.
The original torchi filling was mainly replaced by bricks, while the base (or sub-walling) combines local materials: flint, Beauce limestone and bricks. A stone-cut corner link, also made of Beauce limestone, strengthens the stability of the building on the left. These details illustrate the adaptation of the available resources and the craftsmanship of the Sologne, between medieval tradition and innovations of the Enlightenment.
Classified as a Historic Monument since 2002, this former inn owes its vernacular name (La Forge) to an oral tradition or past activity not documented in the sources. The official protections specifically concern its facades and roofs, highlighting the heritage value of its hybrid architecture. Its address, 3 route de Romorantin, and its Insee code (41268) clearly links it to the department of Loir-et-Cher, in the region Centre-Val de Loire.
The location of the house, noted as very satisfactory (level 8/10), allows you to consider a visit or a tourist development. Although the sources do not specify its current use (guest rooms, room rental), its status as an old hostel suggests a historical role of reception and sociability, typical of solognotic roads linking villages like Romorantin.
