Fronts and roofs on streets including the gable façade (see AE 77): inscription by decree of 23 September 1971
Origin and history
The log house called Maison de l'Ave-Maria is an emblematic building of the city of Joigny, in the department of Yonne, in the region Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in the 16th century, it is a typical example of the Renaissance civil architecture in France, with its half-timbered facades and characteristic roofs. This type of construction reflects the artisanal techniques and local materials used at the time in the region.
The facades and roofs of the house, including the gable façade, were listed as historical monuments by an order of 23 September 1971. This official protection underscores the heritage importance of the building, both for its architecture and for its role in Joigny's urban history. The house is located at 3 and 5 rue Bourg-le-Vicomte, an address that reflects its integration into the historical fabric of the city.
In the 16th century, Joigny was a dynamic city, marked by commercial and craft activities. Wood-paned houses, such as the Maison de l'Ave-Maria, often served as houses for merchants or artisans, while sometimes sheltering shops or shops on the ground floor. These buildings played a central role in the daily and economic life of the city, reflecting the region's relative prosperity at that time.
