House with wooden panels (cad. D 1360): registration by order of 26 October 1990
Origin and history
Neuville-sur-Ornain is a former farmhouse classified as a Historic Monument. Built in the second half of the 16th century, it illustrates the typical rural architecture of Lorraine of that time. Its wood frame, partially preserved, bears witness to the traditional construction techniques used by local peasants and artisans.
Originally conceived as a farm, this farm has undergone changes over the centuries. The left part of the building was destroyed after 1950, probably due to its state of degradation or modern needs. Despite this loss, the remaining structure was protected by a registration order in 1990, recognizing its heritage value.
Located on rue du Moulin, this house is part of the historic landscape of Neuville-sur-Ornain, a village of the Meuse marked by its agricultural past. Its inclusion in the inventory of Historic Monuments allows to preserve a fragment of the Lorraine built heritage, often threatened by urbanization and time. The approximate location and lack of detail on its current use underscore the challenges of conserving small rural buildings.
