Origin and history

La Maison à turelles, located in Albertville en Savoie, dates from the second half of the 14th century. This building, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 8 September 1928, is distinguished by its medieval architecture and its proximity to the Savoy Gate, a strategic point of the city at the time. Its state of conservation and its location, at 1 Rue Gabriel Perugia, make it a rare testimony of the urban habitat of this period in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The inscription of the Tower House in 1928 underscores its heritage importance. Available sources, such as the Merimée and Monumentum database, indicate an approximate location, with an accuracy considered "passible" (note 5/10). Although little is known about its occupants or its exact function, its architectural style and protection reflect the interest in this late Middle Ages vestige in Savoy.

Albertville, then integrated into Savoie County, was a city marked by trade and a strategic position between the Alps and the valleys. Turret houses, like this one, could be used as housing for local merchants or notables, while playing a defensive or symbolic role. Their presence near the gates of the city reinforces the hypothesis of a function related to surveillance or prestige in an urban context that is evolving at the end of the 14th century.
