Façades sur rue et sur cour with their roofs and inside staircase : classification by decree of 25 July 1930
Origin and history
The house in Laon, in the department of Aisne, is a 17th century building. It is distinguished by its typical civil architecture of this period, with facades on street and courtyard, as well as a remarkable interior staircase. These elements, protected by a classification as Historic Monuments since 1930, demonstrate the heritage importance of the building in the urban landscape of Laon.
In the 17th century, Laon was an active city in the Picardie region (now Hauts-de-France), marked by a dynamic economic and social life. Bourgeois houses, like this one, reflected the social status of their owners and played a central role in structuring historic neighbourhoods. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the architectural and urban evolution of the city at that time.
