Origin and history
The house André-Bloc, located on Rue des Capucins in Meudon (Hauts-de-Seine), is a private residence designed in 1949 by architect André Bloc. This concrete and stone building is distinguished by its curved volume and its large bay windows offering views of the surrounding park. It embodies a synthesis between architecture and sculpture, reflecting the avant-garde ideas of its creator.
André Bloc, a training engineer and close to figures like Le Corbusier or Auguste Perret, founded journals such as L'Architecture d'hui. Between 1964 and 1966, he erected two interior sculptures in the park, exploring the fusion between art and habitat. The house, used as a decor in the movie Who are you, Polly Maggoo? (1966) was listed as a historical monument in 1983.
The site also includes the entrance building, the park with its sculptures and its fence wall, protected for their heritage value. The villa illustrates the evolution of 20th century architectural concepts, combining functionality, aesthetics and plastic innovation. Its ranking underlines its importance in the history of modern French architecture.
