Origin and history

The house in Pamiers, Ariège, is an 18th-century bourgeois residence, listed as a historical monument since 1973. It is distinguished by its U-shaped plan, its ordered facade on Gabriel-Peri Street, and its brick elevations, a rare material in the region at the time. The entrance door, centered and decorated with a full-angle arch, has a forged iron monogram "LDC", while the windows on the upper floors retain their original carpentry and guardrails. The outbuildings, opening onto Lakanal Street, present arcades rhythmizing the facade, highlighting the architectural quality of the ensemble.

The forged irons of the house, dated precisely from 1759, are his most remarkable element. They adorn impostes, bumpers, and stair ramps, showing exceptional craftsmanship. The monogram "LDC" suggests a previous owner to Bernard Pierre Vasilières, a lawyer and finance officer, who acquired the property in the early 19th century. Vasilières, originally from Rouergue, played a prominent local political role: he took part in delegations welcoming Napoleon in 1808 and Louis XVIII in 1814, before becoming mayor of Pamiers from 1828 to 1830.

The Napoleonic cadastre of 1828 revealed that the house, its garden and its courtyard belonged to Vasilières. Although the main façade overlooks the street — atypical for a private hotel — the rear is organized around a large garden and outbuildings accessible by cart doors. The listing of the Historical Monuments in 1973 concerns facades, roofs, and the interior staircase with its wrought iron ramp, thus preserving a major architectural and artisanal heritage of Ariège.
