Origin and history
The Art Nouveau House, located on the 7bis Olivet Road in Orléans, is a historic monument built during the first quarter of the 20th century. It perfectly illustrates Art Nouveau at its peak, with a facade arranged symmetrically around the entrance door. The latter, accessible by three steps, is decorated with volute motifs and surmounted by a carved stone lintel. The still visible interior decorations, such as mosaic floors and ceilings with floral or plant motifs, reinforce the artistic character of this creation.
The house was designed by architect C. Coursimault, whose work is distinguished by the balance between symmetry and organic ornaments. The façade, as well as the corresponding roof, were inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 14 September 1994. Inside, the entrance and lobby retain remarkable decorative elements, such as compartmentalized ceilings and a baluster staircase, reflecting attention to detail in Art Nouveau architecture.
Although little information is available on the current use of the building, its listing as Historic Monuments underscores its heritage importance. The location, specified as satisfactory, makes it possible to clearly identify this architectural gem in the urban landscape of Orleans, in the region Centre-Val de Loire.
