Origin and history

The house Art Nouveau, also called house Pinetre, is located in Agen, in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Built between 1896 and 1902 by architects Édouard Payen and Ephraim Pinetre, it is distinguished by its organic style, marked by curved lines, asymmetries and floral motifs, characteristic of Art Nouveau. This movement, popularized in France by Hector Guimard and Émile Gallé, finds here a unique local expression, the house being the only building of this style known in Agenais.

The building, which has been listed as historic monuments since 7 December 2000, rises on three levels and is located at 56 boulevard du Président-Carnot. Édouard Payen, born out of a dynasty of Agenese architects, collaborated with Ephraim Pinetre, a less documented but active architect in the region, as evidenced by other achievements on the same boulevard or in Penne-d Pinetre has also worked on projects combining Art Nouveau and Neo-Gothic, such as a house in Penne-d.

The Art Nouveau House of Agen illustrates the influence of the European artistic currents of the late 19th century in a city in the midst of urban transformation. Its inscription as a historic monument underlines its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its role in local history. The facades and roofs, protected since 2000, bear witness to the decorative richness of Art Nouveau, an ephemeral style but notable in the French architectural landscape.

Available sources, such as Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its exact address and legal status, while emphasizing its originality in a department where this style remains exceptional. The accuracy of its location (noted 7/10) and Creative Commons-licensed photographic credits enhance its visibility in heritage databases, such as Mérimée.
