Origin and history

Paul Dardé's studio house, located in Saint-Maurice-Navacelles, Hérault, is an iconic 20th-century building designed by the sculptor himself. Built in stages from 1925, the date of its installation in the village, this realization reflects an architectural duality: massive walls contrasting with light covers with curved lines, stylistic signature of the artist. The workshop, now fully protected, embodies both a place of creation and an artistic manifesto, where the very structure of the building dialogues with the works produced there.

Paul Dardé (1888–1964), a self-taught sculptor and architect of his own workspace, imagined this place as an extension of his art. The building, classified as Historic Monument by order of 26 December 2001, bears witness to its aesthetic quest and its anchoring in the local landscape. The construction spanned several decades, evolving according to the needs of the artist and his formal experiments. The site, still located in the Hérault department (code Insee 34277), offers a rare example of unity between life, work and architecture, preserving the memory of a major creator in southern France.

The inscription under the title of Historical Monuments covers the entire old workshop and house (cadastral parks AB 59 and 60), highlighting its heritage importance. Although the practical information on current visits or uses (rent, guest rooms) is not specified in the available sources, the building remains a cultural landmark in the Occitanie region. Its approximate address, 5267 F Saint-Maurice-Navacelles, and its connection to the commune (code 34190) make it a point of interest for lovers of art and local history.
