Origin and history

The house at 7 rue des Tanneurs, located in Sarrewerden in the Lower Rhine, is a historic monument registered since 1934. This building, dated 1602 by historical works, is distinguished by its oriel (triangular logette) decorated with ironwork motifs. Although its lateral elevations have been altered over time, this house remains an architectural testimony of the first half of the seventeenth century in the region.

Sarrewerden, part of the department of Bas-Rhin in the Grand East region, was at that time a city marked by artisanal and commercial activities. Half-timbered or gilded houses, like this one, often reflected the prosperity of the owners, usually merchants or artisans. These buildings served both as housing and as a place of work, illustrating the local economic dynamism under the Old Regime.
