Origin and history
La Maison au cabinet peint, situé à Saint-Paterne - The Chevain in the Pays de la Loire region, is a historical monument dating from the 18th century. What distinguishes this house is the presence of a high room entirely decorated with murals of this time, representing a panoramic landscape. These frescoes, rare for a private home, bear witness to the artistic know-how and decorative tastes of the time.
The house was partially classified as Historic Monument by an order of 14 November 1997. This decree specifically protects the room with panoramic painted décor, its ground floor, as well as the corresponding facades and roofs. The official address recorded in the Merimée base is 11 rue d'Alençon, although GPS coordinates suggest a nearby location, at the impasse of Marshal Leclerc.
The accuracy of the location of this monument is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), which can complicate its exact identification on the ground. Despite this, its heritage interest lies in the exceptional preservation of its interior decor, offering an overview of the bourgeois or aristocratic interiors of the eighteenth century in the province. No information is available on its accessibility to the public, whether it be visits, rentals or accommodation.
