Origin and history
The house Blain is a medieval house located in the hamlet of Verthier, on the town of Doussard, in Haute-Savoie. Built in the 15th century, it is distinguished by preserved architectural elements, such as its facades, an inner door surmounted by a star of David, and French ceilings on the first floor. These characteristics earned him an inscription in the title of historical monuments in 1974, highlighting its heritage importance in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
In the 15th century, the Haute-Savoie, then integrated into the Duchy of Savoie, was marked by a rural and artisanal economy. Houses such as Blain's often served as residences for wealthy families or local notables, reflecting their social status through decorative details and careful construction. These buildings also played a role in the structure of hamlets, where civil architecture was associated with religious and agricultural buildings.
The inscription of the Blain house in 1974 allowed to protect specific elements, such as facades (outside roof), adorned door, and ceilings of two rooms on the first floor. These protections aim to preserve Savoyard built heritage, while offering a material testimony of domestic life and techniques of construction of the late medieval era. The precise location, at 40 Chemin Clincaillère or in the hamlet of Verthier, remains a subject of verification according to available sources.
References to this monument include inventory records, such as that established by Jérôme Daviet in 2008 for the Rhône-Alpes region, as well as heritage databases such as Mérimée. These documents complement the knowledge of the Blain House, while highlighting its integration into the broader architectural landscape of the Haute-Savoie, rich in castles and historic buildings.
Finally, the Blain House is part of a network of protected monuments in the department, as evidenced by its presence in the List of historical monuments of the Haute-Savoie. However, its conservation status and accessibility (visit, rental) are not specified in the sources consulted, leaving room for further investigations for interested visitors or researchers.
