Origin and history

The Maison Blanc du Bos is a historic house located in Blesle, in the Haute-Loire department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it is traditionally attributed to the White family of the Bos, which would have made it one of its urban hotels, their main residence being the Bos Castle. The building is distinguished by its rectangular architecture and circular staircase turret, typical of the buildings of this period.

In the 18th century, the house underwent notable changes, including the development of alcove rooms on the second floor, with tinted woodwork and floor ceilings. The large room retains an imposing stone fireplace, decorated with delicate sculptures, reflecting the refinement of the era. These elements, combined with its rustic authenticity, make it a remarkable example of provincial aristocratic habitat.

The White House of Bos was registered as historical monuments by order of 28 October 1993. This protection covers several parts of the building, including the walled staircase, the kitchen with fireplace, the large room on the first floor, and the alcove rooms on the second floor. Today, the building belongs to a private company, and its current use (visit, rental, guest rooms) is not specified in the available sources.

Its architecture, combining elements from the 15th, 16th and 18th centuries, reflects stylistic evolutions and functional adaptations over the centuries. The staircase turret, covered with gneiss lauze, and the interior decorations make it a notable architectural heritage of the Haute-Loire, illustrating the way of life of the local noble families.
