Origin and history
The house, known as Hotel Guérin du Castelet, is a mansion located at 55 rue Émeric David in Aix-en-Provence, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Although its initial construction dates back to the second half of the seventeenth century for the Guérin family, sources indicate a period of construction or modification during the first half of the eighteenth century. The building then belonged to Alexandre de Guérin, adviser to the Parliament of Provence, stressing its importance in the local aristocracy of the time.
The building stands out for its monumental entrance door, decorated with Tuscan pilasters, as well as its interior staircase cage, a remarkable example of 17th century Provencal ironwork. These architectural elements, typical of the Aix heritage, led to partial protection by the Historical Monuments: the door, including its vantals and its imposte, was inscribed by decree of 10 April 1929.
The available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, mention a precise location at 47 rue Émeric-David, with a geographical precision deemed "passable". The building, although protected, does not appear to be systematically open to the public, and its current use (private residence, rental, etc.) is not explicitly documented in the source texts. Its history reflects the evolution of Aixian civil architecture between the 17th and 18th centuries, marked by the influence of Provençal parliamentary families.
