Origin and history
Bouliac-Langoiran House, located in Langoiran, New Aquitaine, was built between 1810 and 1815 for Baron Pierre-Auguste Rateau. This rectangular house, covered with a rumped roof and flanked by a circular forebody, perfectly illustrates the Bordeaux neo-classical current. A terrace and a double-flyed outdoor staircase complete the whole, while the interior decor, like the dining room fireplace adorned with gypsum shops, was largely preserved.
The garden, initially organized on a regular basis, was remodelled in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century to adopt a landscaped style. It includes a large central terrace surrounded by lower terraces, an old orangery, and a charmille reminiscent of the old regular layout. The house was erected on the site of an old noble house, that of Buliac, and is subject to successive protections: the house and its wings were inscribed in 1999, followed by the walls and the fence in 2009.
Baron Pierre-Auguste Rateau, the project's sponsor, wanted a residence reflecting his social status. The site, although partially modified, retains architectural and landscape elements bearing witness to its history.
