Covered gallery: inscription by order of 25 June 1929
Origin and history
The Brustier House is part of a remarkable architectural ensemble of Mirepoix, known as the Cutlery. These houses with covered galleries, typical of medieval and post-medieval urbanism, form a characteristic alignment of the historic centre of the city. Their wooden and stone structure, often supported by pillars or columns, created sheltered semi-public spaces, used for trade or social exchanges.
The inscription of the covered gallery of the Brustier House in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of 25 June 1929 bears witness to its heritage value. This type of construction reflects the urban needs of past eras, where covered spaces played a central role in daily life, protecting residents and goods from the weather. Mirepoix, located in Ariège, was a commercial and artisanal hub, and these galleries illustrated the adaptation of architecture to local economic activities.
