Origin and history

The house at 15 rue du Palais in La Rochelle is a civil building dating from the 18th century. It is representative of the urban architecture of this period in an economically growing port city, marked by maritime trade and cultural exchanges. Its arcade, a remarkable architectural element, was listed as a Historical Monument by ministerial decree in 1928, highlighting its heritage value.

The location of this monument, in the historic centre of La Rochelle, reflects the importance of bourgeois dwellings in the port cities of the eighteenth century. These houses often served as residences for local merchants, shipowners or notables, playing a key role in the economic and social life of the city. Their preservation now allows us to understand the urban and architectural evolution of the Poitou-Charentes region, now integrated into New Aquitaine.

Available data indicate that the accuracy of its location is considered fair (note 5/10), with an address confirmed by the Merimée database.
