Facade and arcade: inscription by decree of 29 September 1928

Origin and history

This house, located in La Rochelle, is an emblematic monument of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It is distinguished by its facade and arcade, protected by a decree of inscription in 1928. Its architecture reflects the stylistic influences of the late Renaissance and early classical era, typical of this period in the region.

La Rochelle, the major port of the Atlantic at that time, was a commercial and cultural crossroads. The houses of this period often served as residences for local merchants, shipowners or notables. Their stone construction, with decorative elements such as arcades, reflected the economic prosperity of maritime trade, particularly with European colonies and countries.

The building is located at 2 rue Pernelle, although approximate GPS coordinates suggest a nearby address at 10 rue Eugène Fromentin. This geographical impreciseness, noted as "passible" (level 5/10), could be explained by subsequent urban changes or survey errors. No information is available on its current use (visit, rental, etc.).
