Origin and history
This house, located in Châteauponsac, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, dates from the first half of the 17th century, more precisely from the years 1610-1620. Although built at this time, it retains medieval architectural features, such as a slightly low arched door on impostes. This mix of styles reflects a period of transition between medieval traditions and Renaissance innovations.
The interior structure is organized in two rooms per floor, one overlooking the street and the other overlooking the garden, served by a staircase with two flights straight on a core wall. Two chimneys remain: one of 17th century origin, the other of Louis XV style, added later. In the 18th century, two oval oculi were integrated into the facade, slightly changing its initial appearance.
Classified Historic Monument by order of 28 March 2000, this house is protected with the exception of its roof rebuilt in 1999 and adjoining outbuildings. Its exact address is 30 rue Jeanne-d'Arc and 4 rue de la Porte-Fortifié, in the Haute-Vienne department. The accuracy of its location is considered fair, perhaps reflecting minor uncertainties in the archives or cartographic records.
