Facades and roofs (Case B 778): inscription by order of 4 December 1961
Origin and history
The house located at 7 rue du Cochet in Dinan is a 15th century civil building, typical of Breton architecture of this period. Its facades and roofs, inscribed in the Historical Monuments by decree of 4 December 1961, illustrate the construction techniques and decorative style in vogue at the end of the Middle Ages in this fortified city.
Dinan, a strategic town in Brittany, was then a commercial and military hub. The houses of that time were often used both as a dwelling, as a craft shop and as a place of exchange for merchants or corporations. Their preservation makes it possible today to understand the urban and social organization of the city at the crossroads between the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Available data from the Merimée database and Monumentum indicate that the exact address is 7 rue du Coignet, although GPS coordinates suggest a close location at 2 rue du Coignet. The accuracy of this location is estimated as "passible" (note 5/10), reflecting uncertainties sometimes associated with historical surveys. No information is provided on its current use (visit, rental, etc.).
