Origin and history

The house of Anne de Dautery, located in Sarlat-la-Canéda, is a remarkable example of 15th century civil architecture. Its facade preserves stone windows with ground frames and cruciform shafts, characteristic of the period. A leopard carved on the right gable evokes a construction under English occupation, a hypothesis reinforced by this heraldic symbol. The building, which remained intact, also features a large arcade on the ground floor and a stone staircase decorated with doric and ionic columns.

The interior reveals a door woodwork in basket cove, decorated with typical Sarladais plant motifs, probably dating from the early 16th century. This house belonged to Dame Anne de Dautery, whose grave is in a fire in the Cathedral of Sarlat. Classified as a Historical Monument in 1962, the house protects its facade, roof and interior staircase, testimonies of the local medieval craftsmanship.

The precise location, 8 Place de la Liberté, and its state of conservation make it an accessible heritage, noted for its location "very satisfactory" (8/10). The protected elements also include the back façade on the impasse, highlighting its integration into the historic urban fabric of Sarlat, a city marked by its medieval past and architectural richness.
