Origin and history

The Cour l'Élu is a 16th century mansion located in Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives, Calvados. Built of stone, it is accompanied by an annex building with wooden panels dating from the same period. This type of architecture illustrates late medieval construction techniques, combining noble materials and wooden structures, characteristic of Normandy.

The manor house and street façade of the contiguous wooden house were listed as the Historic Monuments on 19 January 1927. This protection highlights their heritage value, both for their architectural style and for their seniority. The location on the banks of the Dives, in the village of Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives, strengthens their anchoring in the local historical landscape.

Available sources, such as the Monumental Statistics of Calvados d'Arcisse de Caumont (1867), underline the importance of this site. Although little is known about its occupants or its precise use, its inscription among protected monuments bears witness to its role in Norman built heritage. The wooden house, in particular, offers a rare example of conservation of a medieval structure in urban areas.
