Origin and history

The House of Justice of Traves is a building located at 20 Grande Rue, in the Haute-Saône department (70). This building, recently listed as a Historical Monument by order of 28 February 2024, represents an example of civil architecture linked to the local administration. Its inscription concerns the entire structure, including cadastral parcel No.92, section C, as delimited on the plan annexed to the Order.

Justice houses, in small municipalities such as Traves, often played a central role in the management of local public and judicial affairs. In Burgundy-Franche-Comté, these buildings reflect the social and administrative organization of rural territories, where local justice was essential for resolving conflicts and maintaining order. Their preservation allows us to understand the evolution of local institutions throughout the centuries.
