Origin and history
The Maison de l'Artichaut is a historic monument located at Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy. This building is distinguished by its facades and roof, partially protected by classification decrees. The upper part of the house was classified by arrest in 1936, while the fronts of the first floor and the roof had already been protected by 1918.
These architectural elements reflect the heritage importance of this construction in the emblematic landscape of Mont-Saint-Michel. Mont-Saint-Michel, a major medieval site, has always attracted visitors to its abbey and fortified village. Houses like Artichoke, although less well known than religious buildings, bear witness to the urban planning and civil architecture of the period.
Their preservation allows us to understand the evolution of the building in this place full of history, where each stone tells a fragment of the daily life of the inhabitants and pilgrims who have stayed there over the centuries.
