Origin and history
The Maison de la magie Robert-Houdin is housed in a 19th century bourgeois house, located in Blois, opposite the royal castle. This building, typical of the urban architecture of the period, has been redesigned to accommodate a museum dedicated to magic art, in tribute to Robert-Houdin, the French pioneer of prestidigitations. The place is today a major cultural space, mixing history, science and entertainment.
The museum benefits from the label Musée de France, attesting to its heritage quality and conservation mission. Its official address, 1bis place du Château, places it in the heart of Blois, in the department of Loir-et-Cher (region Centre-Val de Loire). The site is also referenced in the Museofile base, with an Insee code linking the municipality with its historical and cultural heritage.
The collections and exhibitions of the Magic House cover various fields: archaeology, fine arts, ethnology, photography, and technical sciences. These themes reflect the multidisciplinary approach of the museum, which links magic, history and innovation. The building, although modified for its present vocation, retains architectural elements characteristic of the 19th century bourgeois residences.
