Origin and history

The house of La Motte is a house located in Rugny, in the department of l'Yonne, in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in 1828 on the site of an ancient castle now gone, it embodies the sober neoclassical style of the first half of the 19th century. Its facades feature serlian bays, while its dining room preserves wallpapers from scenes by Paul and Virginia, edited by Dufour and Leroy in 1824.

The building was listed as historic monuments by order of 30 April 1999, protecting its facades, roofs, commons, dovecote, as well as the dining room and its decor. The house, of barlong design, illustrates bourgeois domestic architecture of the period, mixing simplicity of literary lines and references through its interior decorations.

Located in the 11th Chateau in Rugny, this house bears witness to the preserved rural heritage of the Yonne. Its inscription among the historical monuments of the region highlights its architectural and decorative interest, while offering a representative example of the provincial neo-classical residences of the early 19th century.
