Origin and history

The Maison de la Rivière et du Paysage is a site located in Normandy Switzerland, on the edge of the communes of Ségrie-Fontaine and Bréel (Orne). Installed in two old reconverted mills, it serves as a gateway to the gorges of the Rouvre and the Roche d'Oetre, offering exhibitions, café-boutique and information about nature. This place, managed by CPIE des Collines Normandes (established in 1991), attracts about 20,000 visitors annually, with activities on the environment, sustainable development and aquatic environments.

The Maison de l'Eau et de la Rivière, opened in 1991 at the initiative of local fishing associations and the Conseil Général de l'Orne, offers free exhibitions on water, aquatic environments and fishing. 500 metres downstream, the Maison du Paysage, located on a Sensitive Natural Space (ENS), houses a café-boutique and a natural information point, bordered by the Pêche-nature, accessible to all. This site of several hectares is a crossroads for hikers, fishermen and school groups, with events such as the Make Vegetables and Gardens (every 2 years in September).

The CPIE des Collines Normandes, made up of 14 employees in 2012, carries out expert missions on natural heritage, including aquatic environments (outer, pearl mussel) and the management of Natura 2000 sites. Its partners include the DREAL in Basse-Normandie, the Water Agency, the Orne General Council and local authorities, within the framework of environmental policies such as ENS (Sensitive Natural Areas).
