Origin and history

The house of Pierre Neveux, located in Roubaix, was built in 1935 by the Roubaisian architect Pierre Neveux to serve both as a dwelling, a professional agency and a service space. This monument, with a surface of 600 m2 spread over a basement and two levels, embodies a successful synthesis between modernity and Art Deco. Its spatial organization reflects a rigorous division between the three main functions, while integrating a decorative purism that characterizes the architectural current of the time.

Contemporary of the Cavrois villa designed by Mallet-Stevens, this house is fully part of the modern 20th century movement. Its quadrangular shape and its cleverly calculated volumes illustrate Pierre Neveux's innovative approach, which has combined functionality and aesthetics. The building, as well as its front garden and garden, were listed in the Historic Monuments by order of 12 August 1998, recognizing their heritage value.

The location of the house, at 40 rue Anatole-France in Roubaix, in the Nord department, makes it a major architectural testimony of the Hauts-de-France region. Its state of conservation and its integration into the urban fabric reflect the importance of this heritage, which continues to attract interest in its avant-garde approach and its mix of styles.
