Origin and history

The house of Saint-Just, located in Blérancourt in the department of Aisne, is a 4th quarter house of the 18th century. It was acquired in 1776 by the father of Louis-Antoine de Saint-Just, a major figure of the French Revolution and deputy for Aisne. This place, marked by its revolutionary history, bears witness to the political and social context of the time.

The building, classified as a Historic Monument in 1987 for its facades and roofs, was transformed into a museum in 1996. Since 2010, he has been offering an interactive exhibition on Saint-Just and the French Revolution, offering visitors an immersion in this pivotal period. The house is also labeled "Maison des Illustres".

Blérancourt, the village of Aisne in the Hauts-de-France region, was at that time a typical rural town in northern France. Bourgeois houses like this often reflected the social rise of families linked to liberal professions or administration. This type of heritage illustrates the architectural evolution and local dynamics before and during the Revolution.
