Origin and history
The Maison des Pierreux is a communal museum located in the village of Crazannes, Charente-Maritime, dedicated to the history of quarrying and stone trades. Set in a traditional Saintongean stone house, this museum is part of the Stone of Crazannes Nature Pole, an original lapidary museum complex. It exhibits ancient tools, historical documents and a video tracing the life of the carriagemen in the 19th and 20th centuries, in a space redeveloped after the opening of the A837 motorway in 1997.
The museum is part of a larger tourist development project initiated by the General Council of Charente-Maritime and the Land of Saintonge Romane. In 2006, he benefited from a redevelopment of his reception and a documentary video, based on an exceptional photographic background. The Maison des Pierreux is integrated into discovery circuits, such as the Stone Road (20 km) linking Crazannes to Port-d的Envaux, and offers guided tours of the village and its Renaissance castle from May to September.
This museum, formerly called House of Old Trades, celebrates in 2024 its 30 years of existence. He helped to preserve a local heritage marked by career development, the last of which closed in 1948. The site extends over 110 hectares, on horseback on Crazannes and Port d'Envaux, and highlights a unique geological landscape, complemented by other attractions such as the neo-Gothic church of Sainte-Madeleine (1874) or the chateau botté.
