Origin and history
The Maison des Templiers de Beaulieu-lès-Loches is a fortified building built at the end of the 12th century. This building is distinguished by its thick walls and its ground floor vaulted with ridges. Upstairs, a large room, once covered with a vault on warheads, was lit by windows in the middle of the hangar. Today, only the beginnings of this vault remain, bearing witness to the medieval architecture of the time.
In the 15th century, a house was added to the courtyard of this historic building, marking a later architectural evolution. The monument was included in the inventory of Historic Monuments by order of December 11, 1944, under the name "House of Templars building". Its exact address, according to the Mérimée base, is located between rue Bourgeoise and rue des Morins in Beaulieu-lès-Loches.
The location of this monument is approximate, with an estimated accuracy of 5 on a scale of 10. Although details of its original use or occupants are scarce, its architecture suggests a defensive or community function. The House of Templars remains a notable vestige of local medieval history, attracting attention for its preserved architectural heritage.
