Façade (cad. A 1700): entry by order of 29 December 1941

Origin and history

The house of Saint-Loup-Lamairé, classified as a Historic Monument, is a rare example of a 15th century dwelling preserved in its original state. It is distinguished by its two overhanging floors, supported by heads of girders, and a wooden panel structure with a filling of bricks arranged in diamond. The windows, always equipped with their wooden frames, reinforce its architectural authenticity.

This type of construction reflects late medieval techniques in the region, where wood and brick were common materials. The facade, protected by arrest since 1941, bears witness to local artisanal know-how and an aesthetic characteristic of the bourgeois or merchant houses of the Poitou in the 15th century.

The exact location of the house, at 41 Grands Rue Théophane Vénard, is documented in the Mérimée base, although geographical accuracy is considered poor (note 5/10). Its listing as Historic Monuments underscores its heritage importance, although there is no information on its current use (visit, rental, etc.).
