Origin and history

The "Maison dit des Écuyers", located in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a 13th century building. This monument is representative of the medieval civil architecture of the region, with a gable façade and characteristic roofs. Although little documented, its structure suggests a residential or local craft function, typical of the fortified villages of the time.

In the 13th century, Flavigny-sur-Ozerain was a dynamic village, marked by agricultural, artisanal and commercial activities. Houses such as that of the Ecuyers were often used to house wealthy families or artisans, while playing a role in the social and economic life of the city. Their preservation bears witness to the importance attached to the heritage built in these medieval communities.

The Maison des Écuyers was partially protected by a decree of 25 October 1990, which places its front-pignon on the street and its roofs in the inventory of Historic Monuments. Today, the building belongs to a private company, and its current use (visit, rental, accommodation) is not specified in the available sources. Its location at 19 rue du Four makes it a notable part of the historic centre of Flavigny-sur-Ozerain.
