House, as well as the garden surrounding it (Box F 816, 820): inscription by order of 8 January 1969
Origin and history
La Maison La Félicité is a house located in Aix-en-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built in the first half of the 18th century, it is a typical example of the civil architecture of this period in the region. Its inscription in the title of historical monuments, including the garden surrounding it, was formalized by decree on 8 January 1969, thus underlining its heritage importance.
The first half of the 18th century in Aix-en-Provence is marked by economic and cultural prosperity, with a bourgeois and aristocratic elite investing in urban and peri-urban residences. These houses, often surrounded by gardens, reflect the taste for comfort and classical aesthetics, while serving as places of sociality and social representation. The Maison La Félicité is in this context, although the available sources do not specify its exact use or its original owners.
The inscription of the house and its garden as a historic monument in 1969 demonstrates the desire to preserve this architectural heritage. Protected elements include the house itself as well as its landscape, as mentioned in the Mérimée base. Today, although information about its accessibility or current vocation is limited, its protected status ensures its conservation for future generations.
