House (Box BH 182): Order of 18 September 1946

Origin and history

The house on 7 rue des Consuls in Sarlat-la-Canéda is a typical example of Renaissance architecture, built between the 15th and 16th centuries. It is distinguished by its sill windows, characteristic of this period, as well as by a door decorated with a pediment supported by two round columns. A shop with a curved opening completes this set, reflecting the mixed use, both residential and commercial, running in medieval and reborn urban centers.

Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 18 September 1946, this house illustrates the civil architectural heritage of Sarlat, a city known for its rich medieval and reborn heritage. Its location in the historic centre, as well as its decorative elements, bear witness to the construction techniques and aesthetic tastes of the era. The accuracy of its location, however, remains limited, with a note of 5/10 depending on available sources indicating a relative approximation.

The available data, notably from the Merimée database and Monumentum, highlight its heritage importance without providing additional details about its occupants or its specific history. The house, identified under the BH 182 cadastre, thus embodies a fragment of Sarlat's urban past, marked by a transition between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, a period of prosperity for the region thanks to trade and crafts.
