Facades and roofs (Case F-286) : entry by order of 6 December 1958

Origin and history

The Boulanger House is an iconic building located in the city of Troyes, in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. Dating from the 16th century, this civil building illustrates the typical Renaissance architecture in this region, marked by a mixture of medieval influences and new constructive techniques. Its facades and roofs, characteristic of this period, have been preserved until today.

The Boulanger House was partially protected as historical monuments, with an official inscription of its facades and roofs by ministerial decree on 6 December 1958. This classification reflects its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this architectural heritage. The building is now owned by the municipality of Troyes, which ensures its management and development within the framework of the local heritage.

In the 16th century, Troyes was a dynamic city, known for its commercial and artisanal activities, especially in the textile sector. The houses of this time, like the Boulanger, reflect the prosperity of the merchant bourgeoisie and corporations. These buildings served as both a dwelling, a workplace and a symbol of social status, often incorporating neat decorative elements on their facades.
