Origin and history
La maison du Petit-Saint-Georges is a medieval house located in Place de la Halle in Peruges, in the department of Ain. Built in the 15th century, it is distinguished by a carved decoration depicting Saint-Georges, emblematic figure of the city. This saint, patron saint of Peruges, is associated with a local legend according to which he terrified a dragon symbolized on the communal coat of arms. Another effigy of Saint-Georges is visible in the church-fortress of the village.
The house derives its name from this religious iconography, which reflects the cultural and spiritual importance of the saint to the community. According to the archives, it was included in the inventory of historical monuments by ministerial decree of 11 October 1929. This heritage protection underscores its architectural value and its role in the urban history of Peruges, a preserved medieval village.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée base, indicate that the building is located at 5258 Place du Tilleul, although geographical accuracy is estimated to be poor (level 5/10). No information is provided on its current use (visit, accommodation or rental), but its protected status makes it a key part of the Ain's built heritage, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
