Façade sur rue (Case AT 194, 195): inscription by order of 2 March 1926
Origin and history
The 13th century House, located in Villefranche-sur-Cher in the Loir-et-Cher, is a historical monument whose construction spans the 12th and 13th centuries. It is distinguished by its medieval architecture, especially on the first floor of its gable, where two arched windows in the full curved hanger are still visible. These openings, once divided by a central column, were accompanied by small arcs resting on bundles of columnlets along the legs. These ornamental details reflect the refined craftsmanship of the period and the influence of the early Romanesque and Gothic styles.
On the ground floor, a broken arch (or third-point) door, without moulding but with a chamfer, marks the entrance to the building. This characteristic, typical of the transition between the Romanesque and Gothic periods, highlights the evolution of construction techniques in the Middle Ages. The façade on street, classified as a Historic Monument by order of 2 March 1926, constitutes the protected element of the building. Although the sources do not specify its original use, this type of house could serve as a bourgeois dwelling, a business or a craft workshop, reflecting the dynamic urban life of Villefranche-sur-Cher at that time.
The location of the house, at 20 Avenue de Verdun, is documented in the Merimée base, with geographical accuracy deemed satisfactory (level 8/10). The Insee code of the commune (41280) confirms its membership in the department of Loir-et-Cher, in the region Centre-Val de Loire. No information is available on its current accessibility, whether visitation, rental or accommodation. The data come mainly from the Monumentum database and the internal archives, without reference to additional sources or recent studies.
