Origin and history
The 15th century house in Neuville-sur-Brenne, in the Indre-et-Loire department, is a historic monument registered since 1948. This civilian building, typical of late medieval architecture, is distinguished by a fireplace with a vertical hood, decorated in the seventeenth century with an allegorical fresco. The central motif depicts a figure dressed in antique, drawing water from a fountain with a shell, surrounded by winged geniuses, garlands and stylized fruits.
The 17th century pictorial decoration, added long after the initial construction, illustrates the influence of classical and mythological motifs in provincial baroque art. This type of ornamentation, although rare in rural houses, is evidence of a desire to beautify inspired by the artistic currents of the time, perhaps under the impulse of an affluent or cultivated owner.
The exact address, 4 Rue du Gravier, and its registration as Historic Monuments underline its local heritage importance. However, the accuracy of its location remains poor (level 5/10), which may complicate its precise identification on the ground. No information is available about its current accessibility to the public or its contemporary use (visit, rental, etc.).
