House and well (Case AD 18): inscription by order of 30 April 1999
Origin and history
The 16th century house located in Arnay-le-Duc, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a historic monument registered since 1999. It perfectly illustrates the civil architecture of the Renaissance, with its wood-paned structure and its corbellations, characteristic of the urban buildings of the period. The ground floor was home to a shop, reflecting the commercial activity of the city, while a long corridor led to a spiral staircase, carried back into the courtyard due to the narrowness of the plot.
This house, accompanied by its well, bears witness to the construction techniques and the spatial organization of the bourgeois or artisanal dwellings of the sixteenth century. Its state of conservation and its inscription as Historic Monuments make it a remarkable heritage, offering an overview of urban life in Burgundy during the Renaissance. The precise address, 24 rue Saint-Honoré, and its Insee code (21023) confirm its anchoring in the Côte-d'Or department, near Dijon.
The building, although partially documented, remains a significant example of architectural adaptation to the urban constraints of the time. The location, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), allows for a more in-depth visit or study, although current practical information (opening, services) is not specified in the available sources.
