Origin and history
The house Étienne Vidal is a civilian residence located in Caunes-Minervois, in the department of Aude, in the Occitanie region. Built between the 14th and 16th centuries, it illustrates the architectural evolution between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. His inscription as a historical monument on 13 April 1948 protected his facades and roofs, which witnessed this double construction period.
The building was originally a unified architectural complex, as evidenced by the continuous floor band. As early as 1662, it was divided into two separate lots, belonging to different owners. This partition led to various changes on the façade overlooking Mont-Gaillard Street, reflecting the successive adaptations of urban spaces to the needs of the inhabitants.
The house is located at the crossroads of Rue Neuve and Rue Mont-Gaillard, in a historic area of Caunes-Minervois. Its classification specifically concerns elements visible from the public highway (Cadastre D 328), highlighting its local heritage importance. Available sources, such as the Merimée or Monumentum base, confirm its status as a protected monument, without specifying its current use (visit, rental, or private dwelling).
