Origin and history

The Fort House of Hatriz is a historic monument located in the commune of the same name, in the Grand East region. Built in the second half of the 16th century, it embodies the defensive and residential architecture typical of this period, marked by political and religious tensions. Strong houses, such as that of Hatriz, were often built by local lords or wealthy families to ensure their protection while displaying their social status.

These structures mixed defensive elements (heavy walls, towers) with living spaces, reflecting the needs of the era. Their presence in the countryside reflects feudal organization and local rivalries, in a context where security was a major concern.
