Origin and history

The fortified house, called Giacomoni House, located in Saint Lucia-de-Tallano, Corsica, is a typical example of 15th century fortified rural architecture. Its square plan, its low part fruit trimmings, and its robust apparatus make it a rare testimony of this time. Killers and mâchicoulis, still visible, emphasize its defensive role. The house, organized on three levels (high ground floor and two floors), is served by an external staircase parallel to the façade and an interior staircase.

The house could date from the last quarter of the 16th century, although its initial construction period was indicated as the 15th century. It was restored during the last quarter of the twentieth century. In 1859, it was mentioned as the property of Giacomoni Don Jacques, then mayor, and Jacques dit Torre, Veran and Judge, dit Torre. In 1885, it was recorded as a "new construction completed" for Giacomoni Jacques in the cadastral archives.

Listed as a Historical Monument, the Giacomoni House was registered by order of 15 January 1987. Its exceptional state of conservation allows us to study the original architectural arrangements, typical of Corsican fortresses. These buildings reflected both the need for protection of local populations and their social organization, often centred around influential figures such as the Giacomoni, a notable family in the region.

The location of the house, although documented (cadastral address AB 119), remains approximate according to available sources, with an estimated accuracy of 6/10. No information is provided on its current accessibility (visits, rentals, or accommodation).
