Facades and roofs, including arcade façades: inscription by decree of 6 December 1949

Origin and history

Gambetta Boulevard House is a historic monument located in Aigues-Mortes, Gard department, Occitanie region. Built in the 17th century, it is distinguished by its preserved civil architecture, with a ground floor with four arches in the middle of a wall overlooking Gambetta Boulevard. The house, located at the corner of two streets, has apparently undergone no major external transformation since its construction, thus maintaining its original appearance.

The house was listed as historical monuments by order of 6 December 1949. This protection applies specifically to facades and roofs, including the arcade façade. The building consists of two floors, with sill windows on the second floor and a wooden beams ceiling under the arcades. Its precise location is at 25-25bis Gambetta Boulevard, at the corner of Emile-Jamais Street.

Architecturally, the ground floor has four pillars on Gambetta Boulevard, supporting two floors. The arches connecting these pillars are in the middle of the hanger, just like the two arcs in return of angle and another central arc under the arcades. On the first floor, three large windows are located above the arcades and pillars, while the second floor is illuminated by sill windows. This type of construction reflects popular techniques and styles in the south of France in the seventeenth century.
