Origin and history

The house in Beaucaire, dating from the 17th century, is a remarkable example of civil architecture of this period. Its three-storey façade, on the ground floor, features a door framed with ionic pilasters, a rock pattern adorning the d'arc key, and a perfectly preserved carpentry period. The basket cove arches, also decorated with rock keys, and the modified car traps, reflect the functional adaptations made over time. The cornice, decorated with carved gargoyle heads, adds a decorative touch characteristic of the emerging baroque style.

The building was partially protected by the Historical Monuments, with an inscription by decree of 12 October 1946 covering the facade (including the vantals of the door) and the roof. This official recognition underscores the heritage value of its architectural elements, including the gate to the classical ordinance and the rocky details, rare for a provincial bourgeois house. The precise address, 31 rue de la République, and its Insee code (30032) are located in the Gard department in the Occitanie region.

The changes observed, such as the widening of the traps to facilitate access to vehicles, reflect the evolution of urban uses without altering the aesthetic integrity of the whole. The preservation of original carpentry and rock decorations makes it a valuable testimony of the craftsmanship and artistic tastes of the Great Century in Languedoc. The location, noted as "passable" (level 5/10) in the databases, suggests a geographic identification to be refined, although the official address is clearly indicated.
