Origin and history
The house of Collonges-sous-Salève, built in 1677, is a typical example of a country house transformed in the early eighteenth century. This building, located in a rural setting, reflects the architectural and decorative evolution of the period, mixing old structure and more recent elements.
The ground floor preserves rooms decorated with neo-classical decorations of the late eighteenth century, including door tops and furniture in the dining room. The North Lounge is remarkable for its Chinese wallpaper, produced in a workshop in Canton in the late 1780s, illustrating the cultural and commercial exchanges of the time.
The house was partially classified as Historic Monument in 2000, protecting its facades, roofs, an 18th century fountain, a circular garden-side basin, as well as the entire ground floor of the oldest part. These elements demonstrate its heritage significance and conservation status.
Originally conceived as a secondary residence, this house embodies the way of life of the rural elites of the Old Regime, combining comfort, refined aesthetics and openness to foreign influences, especially Asian.
